High Flying Books
And now, for my fellow aviators and others with a thirst to learn more about Christianity. I have listed here a few books that I think are very worthwhile reading.
When Faith Takes Flight
My good friend Jim Walters is a mentor and a huge inspiration to me, as well as a fellow aviator. Jim flew the F-4 Phantom in the USAF, later becoming an Air Force pilot instructor, and is still a commercial pilot today. Jim found God while in the Air Force, and after his service to our country, became a Baptist minister and an amazing author.
While Jim has written many articles and stories concerning aviation, Jim also wrote a book called When Faith Takes Flight that is basically a flight manual for Christianity. This is an excellent book not only to read but also to pass on to others with a desire to learn more about Jesus Christ. Jesus In His Glory
"Jesus in His Glory" takes you on a walk through the book of Revelation. But this book is different --- rather than focusing on the Anti-christ or the events of the last days, this shows you pictures of JESUS, who He is right now, and what He is doing right now.
The book does cover every chapter and verse of Revelation, and can be used more as a commentary than a quick read. But this new and unique perspective will leave you both encouraged and excited about what lies ahead, for all who are "in Christ."

Imagine Heaven
This book, by John Burke, really resonated with me. I highly recommend it for anyone who has wondered about near-death experiences and whether or not they are real. I bought mine on Amazon and it was available in print or digital.
God is my Copilot
God is my Co-Pilot is the personal narrative of a man who has had one of the most outstanding careers in American aviation. After Pearl Harbor, when he was marked too old for combat flying at 34, Colonel Robert L. Scott, Jr. refused to abandon his dream of a "mission against Tokyo." With a simple Google search, you should be able to find this 1943 classic for less than a McDonalds lunch

How to Fly a Piper Cub
I found this book almost 40 years ago, just after I became a partner in a 1939 NE2 Cub. (It's a Navy J2 and only 29 were ever built.) I absolutely loved the book (ah, simpler times), and it still sits proudly displayed on my bookshelf. Originally published in the 40s, you can still find new reprints available on Amazon. Original copies are out there, and I've seen them available for about 50 bucks. Mine is dated 1946, and it's not going anywhere. No ADSB or Garmin glass to stare at. Just stick and rudder and a window and door that open in flight!
